B Colour

1. Demi Colouring and style hair                                         2 Hours 30 min.

  • Perform a demi-permanent colour according to the MFI.

  • Style the full head using styling tools and perform the following:

  • Blow-dry

  • Thermal styling

  • Up style

2. Permanent Colouring and style hair                                   3 Hours.

  • Perform a permanent colour according to the MFI.

  • Style the full head using styling tools and perform the following:

  • Blow-dry

  • Thermal styling

  • Up-style

3. Highlights                                                                              3 Hours.

  • Perform a highlighting colour service (min 15 foils)

  • All foils must be placed from the roots.

  • Toner/fashion shade optional

  • A minimum of 2 levels difference must be visible in the end result.

  • Style the full head using styling tools and perform the following:

  • Blow-dry

  • Thermal styling

  • Up-style

C Chemical services

1. Perform a perming and cutting service                                         3 Hours.

  • Perform a permanent waving service, minimum 20 rods.

  • Perform any cutting service removing a minimum of 2cm.

2. Perform a chemical reformation and cutting service                       3 Hours.

  • Perform a chemical reformation service according to the MFI

  • Service can be any of the below:

    • S-curl/blow out

    • Relaxer

    • Straightner

    • Keratin treatment

  • Perform a Layered cut removing a minimum of 2cm.

  • The hair must be dried for the assessor to check.

D Cut, style, and shampoo

1. Perform a fashion cut                                                       1 Hour 30 min.

  • Perform a fashion clipper cut, using a clipper and one other cutting tool, removing at least 1cm of the overall length.

  • The service must include a shampoo and conditioning and treatment.

  • The finished cut must be styled with tools and equipment to compliment the client’s facial profile.

2. Perform a graduated haircut                                               1 Hour 30 min.

  • Shampoo, condition and treat hair and scalp.

  • Perform a graduated haircut on a client with shoulder length hair using a pair of scissors and appropriate tools removing at least 2 cm of the overall length.

  • Dry cutting is permitted.

  • Demonstrate the ability to finish of the style.

3. Perform a short, layered cut                                                1 Hour 30 min.

  • Shampoo, condition and treat hair and scalp.

  • Perform a short layered haircut using a pair of scissors and appropriate tools, removing at least 2 cm of the overall length.

  • Creative styling. Demonstrate the ability to finish of the style.

Practical Task Instructions

Task 1                                                                                                                                                    3 Hours Permanent colour, cut and style.

1. Hair Colouring                                                                                                                                            

  • No darker than a level 4 is permitted.

  • Your analysis sheet has to be completed in full, no fields should be omitted.

  • No Foils are allowed to be done.

  • Your expected final result is of critical importance.

  • Your colour application must be done in the same way as stated on your analysis sheet.

  • The end result must be as stipulated on the analysis sheet.

  • Your final result will be checked on dry hair and there must be 100% grey coverage, the colour must be even, and no bands must be visible in the hair.

2. 1 Length /layered/graduated haircut

  • At least 2cm must be removed from the hair for the haircut (ladies).

  • At least 1cm must be removed from the hair for the haircut (gents)

  • Partings must be clean and precise,

  • Sub-sectioning must correspond with the angle used.

  • Ends must be even or blended.

  • The final cut will be checked on wet hair, however a candidate may choose to perform the cutting technique on dry hair.

  • You are expected to demonstrate correct use of cutting tools and equipment.

3. Dry Hair Styling

  • A blow dry service must be performed using a minimum of 2 brushes.

  • Thermal irons and tongs may be used to finish off the style.

  • The use of styling products is encouraged.

  • The end result must show volume, movement and direction.

4. Deportment & Professional Approach

  • A professional approach to your client must always be maintained.

Task 2                                                                     3Hours 30min

1. Perming

  • A maximum of two models may be used or minimum of one.

  • You are allowed to use the following end paper application methods: Book-end, Double, Single Wrap.

  • Your perm rods must be effectively secured.

  • No hair is allowed to be out of the perm rods. Pins are allowed.

  • The winding of the hair must be of even tension.

  • The lotion must be carefully applied to each rod separately.

  • The hair must be well rinsed ensuring that the lotion is removed from the hair.

  • No Straight pieces are allowed.

  • No Fish hooks are allowed.

  • The perm result must have a curl — that is soft, medium or tight, no combinations.

  • Your final result on your analysis sheet must match the result that you achieved.

2. 1 length /layered/graduated haircut

  • At least 2cm must be removed from the hair for the haircut (ladies).

  • At least 1cm must be removed from the hair for the haircut (gents)

  • Partings must be clean and precise,

  • Sub-sectioning must correspond with the angle used.

3. Dry Hair Styling

  • It must be a full head of roller setting.

  • You are allowed to use a combination of techniques.

  • The roller must be pinned against the force

  • Your setting technique must be organized, neat and it must follow a logical pattern.

  • Smoothed hair with even tension is very important.

  • Your style must be imaginative and creative.

  • Brushing of the roller set is important.

4. Deportment & Professional Approach

  • A professional approach to your client must be maintained at all time.

 

Task 3                                                        3Hours 30 min

1. Chemical straightner/ Relaxer

  • You are allowed to use the following products:

    • Relaxer.

    • keratin smoothing

    • chemical straightener.

  • Application includes but is not limited to virgin hair, root retouch (8-to-10-week chemical free Re-growth must be visible).

  • Ensure that the client's hair has not had braids removed recently.

  • Your analysis sheet has to be completed in full, no fields should be omitted.

  • Application should be done in a methodical and neat manner.

  • Ensure that the technique is in line with the manufacturer's instructions.

  • Time frames must be adhered to and managed correctly.

  • No brakeage or damage to the hair is allowed.

  • No damage to the scalp or hairline.

  • The manufacturer's instructions must be followed during the procedure.

  • Your final result on your analysis sheet must match the result that you achieved.

2. 1 Length /layered/graduated haircut

  • At least 2cm must be removed from the hair for the haircut (ladies).

  • At least 1cm must be removed from the hair for the haircut (gents)

  • Partings must be clean and precise,

  • Sub-sectioning must correspond with the angle used.

1. Highlights/lowlights

  • Your analysis sheet has to be completed in full, no fields should be omitted.

  • A minimum of 10 foils must be placed.

  • A minimum of 2 levels lift or deposit must be visible in the end result.

  • Toner/fashion shade is optional.

  • Application should be done in a methodical and neat manner.

  • Time frames must be adhered to and managed correctly.

  • No brakeage or damage to the hair is allowed.

  • No damage to the scalp.

  • The manufacturer's instructions must be followed during the procedure.

  • The final result is checked on dry hair.

    • plaiting.

  • c) The style may incorporate accessories but no more than 10% of the hair.

  • d) Thermal irons and tongs may be used to finish off the style.

  • e) The use of styling products is encouraged.

  • f) The end result of the up-style must reflect neatness, design, and creativity.

  • a) A professional approach to your client must be maintained at all times.
