Procedures and requirements

ARPL  OFO 514101 

This procedure of assessment is for the Hairdressers /candidates who have not attended a formal accredited learning institution or who does not have the necessary proof of qualifications from SSETA/QCTO and their training college.

The following documents are needed (certified not older than 3 months):

  1. ID document.

  2. Highest school achievement certificate.

  3. Detailed CV showing all the workplaces (Salon) and tasks that was done in the salon.

  4. Service letters (on salon letter head) from previous Salons with details of mentor or person signing the attendance register (logbook). 3 years' experience is needed for admittance to the trade test.

  5. Logbook showing three years practical work in a salon.

Once all these have been verified an application form will be completed and then:

  1. Theory test (Paper 1 and 2) must be completed and passed with 70%.

  2. Once you have passed the theory test you will participate in a mock trade test as to determine your practical hairdressing ability. HTTC will use this time to fill in the gaps where you need more training.

  3. Application will be submitted to NAMB/QCTO and SSETA for your test date.

Occupational Certificate: Hairdresser SAQA 102497 OFO 514101

This procedure of assessment is for the Accredited Hair College/ learning institution students.

The following documents are needed (certified not older than 3 months):

  1. ID document.

  2. Highest school achievement certificate.

  3. Level 2,3 and 4 certificate from your college or training institution, or SOR.

  4. Detailed CV showing all the workplaces (Salon) and tasks that was done in the salon.

  5. Service letters (on salon letter head) from previous Salons with details of mentor or person signing the attendance register (logbook). 3240 hours practical experience is needed for admittance to the trade test.

  6. Logbook showing 1800 hours practical work in a salon.

Once all these have been verified an application form will be completed and then:​

  1. Application will be submitted to NAMB/QCTO and SSETA for your test date.

LEGACY CERTIFICATE: HAIRDRESSING OFO 514101

This is for the single qualifications.

1. Ladies Caucasian

2. Ladies Afro

3. Men's Barbering

  3. Level 2,3 and 4 certificate from your college or training institution, or SOR.

  5. Service letters (on salon letter head) from previous Salons with details of mentor or person signing the attendance register (logbook). 3 years practical experience is needed for admittance to the trade test.

  6. Logbook showing 1800 hours practical work in a salon.
